Kansas Dragonflies

Until I began paying attention to Dragonflies I didn't realize that there are many different species. I found out that there are 80 species in Kansas alone, and there can be as many as a half dozen species on a small pond. Taking photos of them makes me appreciate them more, seeing the wings up close is simply amazing. You can click on each of these pictures to enlarge them, and see much more detail.

  1. I started a Washington County species list for butterflies, dragonflies and mammals some years ago. If I find them, I'll pass them on to you to see if you can add species.
It is absolutely lame how little time I spend appreciating the outdoors anymore, so I'm living my love of nature through your adventures now!

  2. Nice macros of the dragonflies. I've always been interested in nature, but after we got our digital camera and I began taking photos, my attention to the natural world around me increased dramatically.

  3. I finally made it back here. Had no idea that dragonflies could be so lovely. One learns something new every day.
